Butler Snow Attorney Cory Liu Appointed to the 250th Judicial District Court by Texas Governor Greg Abbott

Butler Snow LLP is pleased to announce that attorney Cory R. Liu has been appointed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott to the 250th Judicial District Court. The court has jurisdiction over civil matters in Travis County, Texas, where the state’s capital of Austin is located. He was confirmed by the Texas Senate on April 16, 2025, and will serve out his term through December 31, 2026.

Cory Liu served as a member of the firm’s Commercial Litigation group. He previously clerked for Judge Andrew Oldham on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and Judge Danny Boggs on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Liu was also an assistant general counsel to Texas Governor Greg Abbott, a law clerk to U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, and an intern for Justice Don Willett on the Texas Supreme Court. He serves as President of the Federalist Society’s Austin Lawyers Chapter and is a steering committee member for the Texas Review of Law & Politics.

Liu received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Chicago and earned his Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy.
