Butler Snow is pleased to announce that Cheri R. Hasz has joined the Regulatory and Government Relations group in the firm’s Austin office.
Cheri brings experience in utility regulation, administrative law, and public policy. Prior to joining Butler Snow, she served the Public Utility Commission of Texas, representing the public interest in contested proceedings involving electric, water, sewer, and telecommunications matters. She drafted pleadings and briefs, coordinated expert testimony, participated in settlement negotiations, and advocated on behalf of Commission Staff in hearings and oral arguments.
She also worked as an Attorney-Advisor for the Commission, analyzing regulatory and policy issues, conducting legal research, preparing memoranda and briefing materials for commissioners, and drafting orders in contested cases.
Cheri is a member of the Austin Bar Association’s Administrative Law Section and the State Bar of Texas’ Public Utility Law Section, in addition to her memberships to the American Bar Association, the Gulf Coast Power Association, the Houston Young Lawyers Association, the Hispanic Bar Association of Houston and the Mexican American Bar Association of Houston.
Cheri earned her Juris Doctor from Tulane University Law School with a certificate in International and Comparative Law, where she served as Editor in Chief of the Tulane Journal of International and Comparative Law. She also competed in the Duberstein Bankruptcy Moot Court Competition and held leadership roles within the law school’s Latinx Law Student Association.
Prior to law school, Cheri earned her bachelor’s degree in Government with a concentration in International Relations from Cornell University. She also completed studies and programs in Germany, Greece, and Taiwan, including participation in an Intercultural Negotiation and Mediation Program and Mandarin language studies at National Taiwan Normal University. She is admitted to the State Bar of Texas.
