Butler Snow attorney N. Denver Smith recently spoke at the ACC Annual Meeting, where he presented the session, “Artificial Intelligence – Best Demonstrated Practices.” During the presentation, Smith discussed key developments affecting mergers and acquisitions, emerging transition risks, and strategic considerations for legal counsel navigating today’s evolving business landscape.

Smith is a member of Butler Snow’s Liability & Risk Litigation group and has been recognized for his work across several litigation disciplines. He was named a BL Rankings, The Best Lawyers in America® “One to Watch” for 2026 in commercial litigation, insurance law, labor and employment litigation, and product liability litigation (defendants), and was also selected to Charleston Business Magazine’s 2025 Legal Elite list.
Smith maintains an active leadership role within the Defense Research Institute (DRI), where he has served on the Young Lawyers Steering Committee, including as Chair of the Substantive Law Liaison Committee for 2024–2025, Co‑Chair of the Recruiting Committee for 2023–2024, and Vice‑Chair from 2022–2023. He has also participated in DRI’s Diversity Rainmaker Mentoring Program and was selected for the American College of Trial Lawyers’ 2024 ACTL Diversity Trial Advocacy Program.
In addition to his national involvement, Smith is active in South Carolina legal and professional organizations. He is a member of the South Carolina Bar’s Young Lawyers Division, serving on its Professional Development Committee, and sits on the Board of Directors for the Palmetto Society for Human Resource Management. Smith is also involved with the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce through its Charleston Young Professionals organization.
Smith earned his bachelor’s degree, cum laude, from Coastal Carolina University and his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of South Carolina.
