The federal Historic Tax Credit, set forth in Section 47 of the Internal Revenue Code, was enacted in 1976 as an incentive to preserve and rehabilitate America’s historic structures.  Administered by the National Park Service, the Historic Tax Credit (HTC) is a dollar-for-dollar tax credit, providing a 20% credit on qualified rehabilitation expenditures.  The HTC is a formidable ally of sustainability and community revitalization – creating jobs and affordable housing in communities throughout the United States.
