Celebrating Years of Excellence in Client Service: The Butler Snow Approach

May 12, 2022 | by Butler Snow

When it comes to client service, Butler Snow believes in striving for excellence when delivering legal services. The firm prioritizes operating in partnership with each client and follows the guiding principle that clients’ success is a direct reflection of Butler Snow’s success. With this in mind, Butler Snow has built a reputation of quality within the client service arena and the consistent results and third-party recognitions speak for themselves. The firm is proud to dedicate this post to highlighting the high-caliber service that our attorneys deliver to clients across the board as is showcased in recent industry recognitions.

Butler Snow Practice Management Partner Paula Proctor Daniel notes, “The greatest asset we have as a firm lies in the wealth of knowledge, experience and trusting relationships developed between and among the individuals here.” She goes on to say, “It sustains us and is a key driver for excellent client service.” Paula was recently recognized as one of nine Women Who Lead in Law by the Memphis Business Journal for exhibiting strong leadership qualities in the legal field.

With strong attorneys like Paula Daniel, Butler Snow has received national recognition across the board, including being consistently named as one of the nation’s top law firms for client service by BTI Consulting Group. Butler Snow has previously ranked highly among other firms in the BTI Client Relationship Scorecard for understanding client business, anticipating client needs, proactive communication, superior legal skills, quality and keeping clients informed.

2022 BTI Client Service A-Team

This year, Butler Snow was named in BTI Consulting Groups’ 2022 Client Service A-Team for the third year in a row and is among the top 59 firms with the most improved client service over last year. BTI’s surveys revealed that Butler Snow’s client service is in the top 20% of the law firms serving the world’s largest clients and is improving at twice the rate of all other law firms.  This honor showcases the firm’s client-first approach, which is evaluated through in-depth interviews with 350 corporate counsel members.

Last year, Butler Snow was listed on BTI’s 2021 list as one of the top 70 firms that improved client service year over year. The BTI Client Service A-Team is an exclusive listing well-known within the legal industry as a competitive honor only reserved for top legal firms.

Receiving national recognitions like the BTI Client Service A-Team speaks to the level of service Butler Snow delivers to clients – in anticipating needs, in providing elevated value and in establishing long-lasting client relationships.

Phillip Sykes Named 2022 BTI Client Service All-Star

In addition to the firm’s A-Team recognition, Butler Snow attorney Phillip S. Sykes was named a 2022 BTI Client Service All-Star for his exceptional work in Commercial Litigation. Honorees are only selected for consideration when a top legal decision-maker recognizes them, without prompt or suggestion, along with providing significant reasoning behind the nomination. No law firm or attorney can pay, influence or refer themselves. Attorneys only get on this list by outperforming everyone else, making this recognition an incredible honor.

This research is part of BTI’s ongoing Annual Survey of General Counsel, where more than 350 top legal decision-makers at leading organizations across 15 industries are interviewed, recognizing 565 attorneys nationally. One client noted in response to Phillip’s recognition, “He doesn’t just get great results, he’s also a really great person and easy to work with.”

Sykes is a member of Butler Snow’s Commercial Litigation practice group. His practice includes commercial, professional liability, environmental and product liability litigation. An experienced litigator and award-winning attorney, his practice has taken him coast to coast with court appearances from New York to California. For his work, Sykes has been previously recognized by Chambers USA®, Best Lawyers in America® (multiple categories, including “Bet the Company Litigation”) and Super Lawyers®. He is also an experienced mediator and arbitrator and a member of the American Arbitration Association’s panel of neutral arbitrators.

Raising the Bar for Client Services During the Pandemic & Beyond

Our attorneys are innovators and problem-solvers. They constantly rise above and prioritize excellent client service and have ever since the firm’s founding in 1954. Butler Snow has continued to maintain an unmatched level of client service, even as the pandemic presented a new set of challenges industry-wide. For Butler Snow, this new wave of challenges was viewed as an opportunity to rise to the occasion and lean into the firm’s founding principles.

Appellate Practice Group Leader Amanda G. Taylor says, “From the onset, we went into action helping our clients navigate a myriad of issues while also providing a number of resources through our COVID-19 hub.”

She continues, “Since then, we have continued to provide several ‘value add’ services to help lead our clients through these challenging and quickly changing times. Our goal is to ensure that we are trusted counselors, not only for legal issues but for a variety of business concerns.”

Despite the challenges of the past few years, Butler Snow’s client-first mentality and unique culture enabled our attorneys to maintain the consistently high level of service that the firm’s clients expect and deserve.
