Butler Snow attorney Scott K. Field will speak on a panel at the upcoming Annual Meeting of the Intellectual Property Owners Association on Tuesday, Sept. 21 in Austin, Texas. In the session titled “Mental Health Challenges in the Legal Profession,” Field and his fellow panelists will provide an overview of mental health issues that lawyers may face, particularly in the midst of a pandemic, and how to identify signs that you or someone you know may be struggling. The panel will also provide resources and recommendations for ways to combat the many mental health challenges lawyers face today.
Field is a member of the firm’s Appellate practice group. Prior to joining the firm, he served a six-year term as Justice of the Texas Court of Appeals, Third District. Field also has experience from private practice handling all levels of trial and appellate matters in federal and state courts, representing individuals and institutions in a variety of commercial litigation matters, including contract and insurance disputes, and represented ERISA plans with disability and medical claims. He now uses his experience as a judge and as an appellate and trial attorney in advising clients from the outset of litigation through the conclusion of the appellate process.
Field has written and spoken extensively on the topic of mental health challenges of the legal profession, including being interviewed for the Texas Appellate Law Podcast and published by Texas Lawyer and Austin Lawyer. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Austin Bar Association, the American Arbitration Association and the Texas Supreme Court Historical Society. Field has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America® for Appellate Practice and Commercial Litigation. He serves on the board of directors for the Texas Aggie Bar Association and is a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and the Austin Bar Foundation. Field received his bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, from Texas A&M University and his Juris Doctor, with honors, from The University of Texas School of Law.
