Butler Snow attorney Stephen P. Groves, Sr. has been elected as a Fellow of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers (AAAL). The invitation-only academy is limited to 500 members and is open only to a person who possesses a reputation of recognized distinction as an appellate lawyer. The nominee’s practice must have also focused substantially on appeals during at least the last 15 years.
The AAAL was founded in 1990 to recognize outstanding appellate lawyers and promote the improvement of appellate advocacy and the administration of the appellate courts. Learn more about the academy here.
Groves is a member of Butler Snow’s tort, transportation and specialized litigation group and focuses his practice in the areas of insurance coverage litigation, appellate practice and commercial litigation.
Groves has been recognized by Best Lawyers® for appellate practice and insurance law since 2010, Charleston’s appellate practice “Lawyer of the Year” in 2015 and 2021 and insurance “Lawyer of the Year” in 2019, and by Martindale-Hubbell® with an AV-Preeminent Peer Review rating.
Groves is a Fellow of the American College of Coverage Counsel and a member of the International Bar Association, American Bar Association, Federal Bar Association, South Carolina Bar, Charleston County Bar Association, DRI and the Council of Appellate Lawyers. He received his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the College of Charleston and his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law.
