Randall D. McClanahan and Katie T. Powell named Best of the Bar by Birmingham Business Journal

Butler Snow attorneys Randall D. McClanahan and Katie T. Powell have been honored in this year’s Best of the Bar by the Birmingham Business Journal. The Best of the Bar award honors the best and brightest in Birmingham’s legal field across a range of practice industries. After being nominated, the honorees were chosen based on tangible accomplishments, contributions to the industry and status in their practice area.

McClanahan is a member of Butler Snow’s business services group and focuses his practice on corporate law, federal tax law, executive compensation, mergers and acquisitions and venture capital and private equity transactions. He is also a licensed CPA in Alabama and Georgia.

McClanahan is a member of the American, Alabama and Birmingham Bar Associations, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts, and the Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants. He is chair of the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section’s Audit Response Committee and is also a representative of the National Conference of Lawyers and CPAs. McClanahan has been recognized by Best Lawyers® for tax law since 2016 and is AV-Preeminent rated by Martindale-Hubbell®. He earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Auburn University, a master’s of tax accounting from the University of Alabama, an MBA from Duke University and a Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina School of Law.

Powell is a member of the firm’s commercial litigation group, focusing her practice on general and commercial litigation matters. She also defends companies and businesses in employment actions, including Title VII and other anti-discrimination matters, while also regularly counseling clients on employment matters including legal compliance and employment contracts. She is the Birmingham office liaison for Butler Snow’s Women’s Initiative and sits on Butler Snow’s Inclusivity and Recruiting Committees.

Powell is a member of the American, Alabama State and Birmingham Bar Associations, as well as the International Association of Defense Counsel, Alabama Defense Lawyers Association and Manufacture Alabama HR and Workplace Development Committee. She also serves on the board of the Vestavia Hills City Schools Foundation. Powell has been recognized by Super Lawyers® since 2014 and by Best Lawyers in America® this year. She received her bachelor’s from the University of Georgia and her Juris Doctor from the Cumberland School of Law.
