Two Butler Snow Attorneys Named Rising Stars of Law

Butler Snow attorneys Katie T. Powell and Caroline D. Walker have been named 2019 Rising Stars of Law by the Birmingham Business Journal. The recognition highlights up-and-coming Birmingham attorneys that are significantly contributing to their firms and helping to shape the industry and the city’s legal scene.

Powell is a member of the firm’s commercial litigation group, focusing her practice on general and commercial litigation matters. She also defends companies and businesses in employment actions, including Title VII and other anti-discrimination matters, while also regularly counseling clients on employment matters including legal compliance and employment contracts. She is the Birmingham office liaison for Butler Snow’s Women’s Initiative and sits on Butler Snow’s Inclusivity, Pro Bono and Recruiting Committees.

Powell is a member of the American, Alabama State and Birmingham Bar Associations, as well as the International Association of Defense Counsel, Alabama Defense Lawyers Association, Birmingham Volunteer Lawyer’s Program and Manufacture Alabama HR and Workplace Development Committee. Powell also serves as a board member of the Vestavia Hills City Schools Foundation and the Editorial Board of The Alabama Lawyer. She received her bachelor’s from the University of Georgia and her Juris Doctor from the Cumberland School of Law.

Walker is a member of the firm’s Pharmaceutical, Medical Device and Healthcare Group, as well as the Product Liability, Toxic Tort and Environmental Litigation Group. She defends pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers in mass tort and individual cases pending in various state and federal venues throughout the country. Walker regularly contributes to the firm’s Product Lines Blog and Pro Te: Solutio, an award-winning quarterly publication of Butler Snow’s pharmaceutical, medical device and healthcare industry attorneys. She is also a member of Butler Snow’s Recruiting Committee.

Walker is a member of the American, Alabama State, Birmingham and Mississippi Bar Associations. She volunteers with the Birmingham Volunteer Lawyer’s Program, and is actively involved with the Birmingham Zoo’s Junior Board, the Birmingham Ballet Guild and the Children’s Art Guild. Walker received her bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Mississippi and her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Alabama, where she was executive editor of the Alabama Law Review.
