Butler Snow LLP is pleased to welcome attorney Mark S. Sharpe to the firm’s Charleston office as a member of the Finance, Real Estate, and Restructuring practice group. Sharpe brings a decades-long track record of advising on complex commercial real estate transactions and financial matters throughout the Southeast.

Mark S. Sharpe
Sharpe’s practice focuses on real estate, commercial real estate finance, commercial contracts, and creditors’ rights. He has represented lenders and borrowers in high-value real estate and corporate transactions, as well as in mortgage and UCC foreclosures. He has also been appointed by state and federal courts to conduct foreclosure sales of commercial properties and has served as a frequent speaker on topics related to commercial real estate, banking law, and creditor rights.
Before becoming an attorney, Sharpe was a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in New York. His legal career includes representing clients in significant transactions such as the $63 million acquisition of a 2,000-acre coastal tract in South Carolina and a $52 million loan refinance for a resort development.
Sharpe currently serves as a dean of the South Carolina Real Estate Bar and is a Fellow of both the American College of Real Estate Lawyers and the American College of Mortgage Attorneys. He is a former Chair of both the Real Estate and the Corporation, Banking and Securities Law Sections of the South Carolina Bar.
Sharpe earned his bachelor’s degree from Yale, his M.B.A. from New York University and his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina.
