Butler Snow Attorneys Nick Felix and Brad Waring Elected to Leadership Roles for the South Carolina Supreme Court Historical Society

Butler Snow attorneys R. Nicholas Felix and Bradish “Brad” J. Waring recently attended the 2025 annual meeting of the South Carolina Supreme Court Historical Society (SCSCHS) on Tuesday, April 22, in Columbia, S.C. At the meeting, Felix was elected as a member of the Board of the SCSCHS and will serve his term until 2028. Waring was elected President-Elect of the SCSCHS for 2025-2026. Waring is also a former board member and served as Treasurer in 2024.

The mission of the South Carolina Supreme Court Historical Society is to study, preserve and collect the history of the courts, the judiciary, the legal profession, the judicial development of the rule of law and judicial independence in South Carolina. The organization also aims to educate the public about that history through publications, conferences and other means.

Nick Felix

Felix is a member of Butler Snow’s Commercial Litigation and Tort, Transportation and Specialized Litigation groups, representing individual and corporate clients in complex commercial and catastrophic injury cases. With over thirty years in practice exclusively focused on litigation, Felix honed his trial skills as a prosecutor and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney while a JAG Officer in the U.S. Marine Corps, then in his current practice representing clients in litigation in State and Federal Courts.

A substantial portion of Felix’s practice is devoted to Alternative Dispute Resolution and other attorneys regularly consult him to assist their clients in producing timely and cost-effective results to the most contentious or complex disputes. He is a licensed and certified State and Federal arbitrator and mediator. He has mediated over a thousand cases, including class action, commercial/residential development, multiparty construction, consumer/corporate finance, intellectual property, personal injury, probate, domestic, professional malpractice, and commercial and residential real estate.

Felix is AV®-Preeminent™ Peer Review rated by Martindale-Hubbell® and has been recognized by BL Rankings, The Best Lawyers in America® for Commercial Litigation (2021-2025). He is a member of the American Bar Association, South Carolina Bar Association, Beaufort County Bar Association and Charleston County Bar Association.

Felix earned his bachelor’s degree from The Citadel and his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina.

Brad Waring

Waring is a seasoned trial attorney with 40+ years of experience and 50+ trials to verdict. He is a member of the firm’s Tort, Transportation and Specialized Litigation Group, where he concentrates his practice in the civil arena at the state and federal levels, where he represents a variety of clients in complex litigation matters. He is also frequently asked by his peers to serve as a mediator or arbitrator in various civil matters. Waring has handled many maritime personal injury matters on both the plaintiff and defense sides. He is also a member of the Southeast Admiralty Law Institute (SEALI).

Waring has been recognized by BL Rankings, The Best Lawyers in America® for commercial litigation and bet-the-company litigation, by South Carolina Thomson Reuters Super Lawyers® for business litigation, transportation/maritime, alternative dispute resolution, insurance coverage and personal injury-products, by Chambers USA for litigation: general commercial and by Martindale-Hubbell® with an AV®-Preeminent™ Peer Review rating. Waring serves as a Board Member of the Law Alumni Council and was the Past President of the South Carolina Bar, a Legacy Donor of the South Carolina Bar Foundation, the State Bar Delegate for South Carolina for the American Bar Association, and a mediator for the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals in Charleston. He is a member of the Charleston County Bar Association, the South Carolina Judicial Council, the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys Association, the Southeast Admiralty Law Institute, the Defense Research Institute (DRI), and the Litigation Counsel of America Trial Law Institute and Diversity Law Institute. Waring has been previously reappointed to the South Carolina Supreme Court’s Chief Justice’s Commission on The Profession.
