Butler Snow is pleased to announce that William M. Gage has been named Chair-Elect of the University of Mississippi School of Law Alumni Association. He was elected during the Mississippi Bar Convention held July 7-9, 2026.
In this leadership role, Gage will support the Alumni Association’s efforts to strengthen engagement among graduates of the Ole Miss School of Law and advance initiatives that benefit students, alumni and the broader legal community.

Gage is an attorney in Butler Snow’s Pharmaceutical, Medical Device & Healthcare Litigation Group and previously served as chair of the firm’s Litigation Department. With more than 30 years of experience, he focuses on defending complex mass tort litigation involving products, drugs and medical devices.
He has served as lead counsel in some of the largest multidistrict litigations in the United States, including representing Johnson & Johnson and Ethicon in pelvic mesh litigation, and has extensive trial experience with multiple defense verdicts in courts across the country.
Widely recognized by leading legal industry publications, Gage is ranked nationally by Chambers USA for Product Liability & Mass Torts and has been recognized by The Legal 500 US and BL Rankings, The Best Lawyers in America®, which named him 2023 “Lawyer of the Year” for Product Liability Litigation – Defendants in Jackson, Mississippi. Gage earned his J.D. and Bachelor of Accountancy, both cum laude, from the University of Mississippi.
