Butler Snow Attorney Brad Waring Named President of South Carolina Supreme Court Historical Society

Butler Snow attorney Bradish “Brad” J. Waring has been named president of the South Carolina Supreme Court Historical Society, further reflecting his longstanding commitment to the legal profession and the preservation of South Carolina’s judicial history.

As president, Waring will help guide the Society’s ongoing efforts to preserve historical records, support educational programming and promote a greater understanding of South Carolina’s judicial history.

The South Carolina Supreme Court Historical Society is dedicated to studying, preserving and promoting the history of the state’s courts, judiciary, legal profession and the development of the rule of law and judicial independence in South Carolina. The organization also educates the public through publications, programs and historical initiatives.

Brad Waring

Waring is a seasoned trial attorney with more than 45 years of experience and over 50 trials to verdict. A member of Butler Snow’s Tort, Transportation and Specialized Litigation Group, he focuses his practice on complex civil litigation in state and federal courts, representing a broad range of clients in high-stakes matters. He is also a member of the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals and is frequently selected by peers to serve as a mediator and arbitrator.

South Carolina Super Lawyers® has previously recognized Waring for business litigation, transportation/maritime, alternative dispute resolution, insurance coverage and personal injury-products. He has also been recognized by BL Rankings, The Best Lawyers in America® for commercial litigation and bet-the-company litigation, by Chambers USA for litigation: general commercial and by Martindale-Hubbell® with an AV®-Preeminent™ Peer Review rating. Most recently, he was recognized as a top attorney in the 2026 Legal 500 US “Southeast Elite” list.

Waring is a Past President of the South Carolina Bar, a Legacy Donor of the South Carolina Bar Foundation, a former State Bar Delegate from South Carolina to the American Bar Association, He is a member of the Charleston County Bar Association, the South Carolina Judicial Council, the Southeast Admiralty Law Institute, the Defense Research Institute (DRI), the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel, Litigation Counsel of America, the American Board of Trial Advocates and is a permanent member of the 4th Circuit Judicial Conference.

Waring has been a member of the South Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice’s Commission on the Profession since 2005 and is President of the South Carolina Supreme Court Historical Society. In 2024, Waring was awarded the Chief Justice’s Lifetime Achievement Award by the Honorable John W. Kittredge. In 2026, he received the DuRant Distinguished Public Service Award from the South Carolina Bar Foundation. Waring earned his bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina.
