Butler Snow Attorney Ashley Wicks to Present NMTC Basics Workshop at the Novogradac 2026 New Markets Tax Credit Conference

Butler Snow is pleased to announce that attorney Ashley N. Wicks will be presenting as a panelist in an “NMTC Basics Workshop” at the Novogradac 2026 New Markets Tax Credit Conference on January 21, 2026, in San Diego, California.

Wicks, alongside three other panelists, will explore the process of learning the fundamentals of the New Markets Tax Credit incentive, including the backgrounds and roles of key industry participants. The session will also focus on the “alphabet soup” of NMTC terminology – CDEs, QEIs, QLICIs, and QALICBs – as well as strategies for avoiding recapture, and additional insights from seasoned experts.

Ashley N. Wicks

Wicks focuses her practice on Public Finance, State and Local Taxation, and Tax. In addition to her work in Public Finance, she is also President of the Butler Snow Foundation. She has been honored by BL Rankings, The Best Lawyers in America® and Thomson Reuters Super Lawyers® for her work in Tax Law. Wicks was named a Rising Star in the Novogradac Journal of Tax Credits in 2024 and was voted Best Tax Attorney in the Jackson Free Press’s Best of Jackson from 2018-2021. Her work and civic involvement have also been honored by the American Bar Association, National Bar Association, the Mississippi Business Journal and Visit Jackson, among others.

Wicks currently serves on the board of directors of the Jackson State University Development Foundation, Inc. and the Women’s Foundation of Mississippi. Wicks was a Fellow of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity and the American Bar Foundation, as well as a Scholar of the Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants. She is actively involved in several legal and civic organizations, including the American, National, Magnolia, and Capital Bar Associations, as well as the National Association of Bond Lawyers. Wicks is recognized as a thought leader in her practice and frequently speaks on tax and public finance topics at industry conferences and events across the country, including at annual Novogradac conferences.

Wicks earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Jackson State University, her Juris Doctor from Tulane University, and a Master of Laws in Taxation from the University of Alabama.
