Butler Snow Adds Three Attorneys to Birmingham, Alabama Office

Butler Snow LLP is pleased to welcome attorneys Sela S. Blanton, Kevin McGovern and Meredith S. Taylor to the firm’s Birmingham, Alabama, office. Blanton joins as a member of Butler Snow’s Tort, Transportation and Specialized Litigation practice group, McGovern will serve as a member of the firm’s Business Services group and Taylor joins as a member of Butler Snow’s Products, Catastrophic and Industrial Litigation group.

Sela S. Blanton

As a member of Butler Snow’s Tort, Transportation & Specialized Litigation group, Blanton brings a wide range of experience across various matters. She has worked on general civil and business litigation matters, estate litigation, toxic torts, class actions, products liability, and insurance and business transactions.

Blanton is AV®-Preeminent™ Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell® and has been recognized by Thomson Reuters Super Lawyers® for several years. She is an active member of the Birmingham Bar Association, having served on the Scholarship and Grievance Committees. She was a member of Class 8 of the Alabama State Bar Leadership Forum.

Blanton earned her bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, from Auburn University and her Juris Doctor from the University of Alabama School of Law, where she served on the managing board of the Alabama Law Review. She is admitted to the State Bar of Alabama, the Supreme Court of Alabama, the Eleventh Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, and Alabama’s Northern, Middle and Southern U.S. District Courts.

Kevin McGovern

McGovern joins the firm’s Business Services group, bringing extensive private funds and corporate law experience. He has advised on private fund structuring, formation, and the drafting of documents to offer private fund interests across multiple investment strategies, including for co-investment vehicles and separately managed account arrangements. McGovern has also advised on the securities laws and regulatory compliance, shareholder activism campaigns, and corporate governance matters.

McGovern earned his bachelor’s degree and Master of Business Administration from Spring Hill College, his Juris Doctor from the University of Alabama School of Law, and his LL.M., Taxation, from Georgetown University Law Center. He is a former Certified Public Accountant and is admitted to the State Bar of Alabama.

Meredith S. Taylor

Taylor joins as a member of Butler Snow’s Products, Catastrophic and Industrial Litigation group. Her previous experience focused on representing financial institutions in federal court, arbitration and regulatory proceedings in employment-related disputes. She has advised clients on EEOC and state agency proceedings and has drafted position statements, managed investigations and engaged in developing early resolution strategies. She previously served as Editor-in-Chief of the Cumberland Law Review and has been published on Law360.

Taylor earned her bachelor’s degree, cum laude, from Auburn University and her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the Cumberland School of Law.
