Butler Snow attorney Ashley Wicks will participate as a selected speaker at the Novogradac 2023 Fall New Markets Tax Credit Conference in New Orleans this Friday, October 27, 2023. Wicks will speak on the “Award Winner Case Studies” panel, showcasing the inside story of The Detroit Food Commons, winner of a Novogradac Journal of Tax Credits QLICI of the Year award. Panelists will delve into the challenges faced and lessons learned in financing and completing a 31,000-square-foot, two-story building to house the Detroit People’s Food Co-op, as well as four teaching and shared-space commercial kitchens, a banquet hall/community meeting space and office spaces for the Detroit Black Community Food Security Network. Each panel member has successfully executed NMTC financing in a challenging environment.
The Novogradac New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) Conference events focus on the latest trends and insights into community development incentives and how community development entities can prepare for future NMTC allocation rounds. The conference presents extensive opportunities to network with hundreds of community development professionals and leaders while learning from experienced NMTC accountants, allocatees, investors, developers and more. In addition, presentations will cover emerging legislation and tax credit equity pricing to help attendees expand their understanding of best practices and preparation protocols for future NMTC allocation rounds.

Ashley Wicks earned her bachelor’s degree and Master of Public Administration from Jackson State University, her Juris Doctor from Tulane University and a Master of Laws in Taxation from the University of Alabama.
