Butler Snow attorneys Kenyatta L. Gardner and Robert E. Sumner, IV have been named to the 2022 Legal Elite by Charleston Business Magazine for Business Litigation. The list highlights the top vote-getters across 26 categories, as voted on by area attorneys.

Gardner is a member of the firm’s Tort, Transportation and Specialized Litigation group. He is a zealous advocate for his clients as he conducts and manages litigation in State and Federal Courts from filing through the appeals process, counsels clients on statutory and common law rights and defenses as well as litigation strategy, and advocates for clients in motions practice, trial, mediations, and alternative dispute resolutions.

Gardner has been recognized as One to Watch by Best Lawyers in America® for Commercial Litigation, Insurance Law, Litigation – Construction and Transportation Law. He is a member of the American, South Carolina and Charleston County Bar Associations, the Defense Research Institute and the James L. Petigru American Inn of Court. As a member of Butler Snow’s Commercial Litigation group, Sumner focuses his practice on complex civil litigation for a range of business clients including large corporations, small businesses, manufacturers, real estate owners and developers and trustees. He has tried jury and non-jury cases in state and federal courts in North Carolina and South Carolina and has handled appeals before the Court of Appeals, the Supreme Courts of North Carolina and South Carolina and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Sumner has been recognized by Super Lawyers® for Business Litigation since 2016 and Best Lawyers in America® for Commercial Litigation and Trusts & Estates Litigation.
