John Shoemaker to Participate in Virtual Round Table Series on Legal, Tax and Private Wealth Issues in Asia

Butler Snow attorney John Shoemaker will participate in two sessions of the Virtual Round Table Series on Tuesday, June 2 and Wednesday, June 3, to discuss the legal, tax and private wealth issues facing ultra-high-net-worth clients across Asia, particularly in light of the continuing COVID-19 crisis. The sessions will explore the application of divorce, succession and community property laws in varying countries, with a focus on Indonesia on June 2 and China on June 3. Shoemaker also participated in the session on May 20 focusing on the Philippines.

Shoemaker is a member of the firm’s business services group and practices in the Singapore office. He has more than 25 years of experience in legal and regulatory compliance and is a common law attorney with an educational emphasis on taxation, trusts and estate planning. Shoemaker also has extensive experience in ensuring multi-jurisdictional compliance for product offerings (working with outside counsel and adapting products for sale in relevant jurisdictions), including product management skills to direct complex products from concept to fully operational status.

Shoemaker is a member of the Singapore Trustees Association, the Society of Trust and Estates Practitioners and the Kansas Bar Association. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas, his Juris Doctor from Washburn University School of Law and his Master of Laws in Taxation from the University of Alabama School of Law.
