Claude Eugene (Gene) McRoberts, Jr. Passed Away July 4, 2019

Claude Eugene (Gene) McRoberts, Jr. – a visionary attorney who was foundational in the early years of Butler Snow – passed away on July 4, 2019 at the age of 86. Services were held July 8 at First Presbyterian Church of Jackson. Gene was a key partner at Butler Snow for many years and was part of a second wave of critically important partners that not only were outstanding practitioners but also embraced and built upon the principles we now call our culture. He was a man of impeccable integrity and was loved by his partners, staff and clients. Our firm today stands on the shoulders of Gene and his generation of Butler Snow partners. His legacy was and is an important part of the history of Butler Snow and our practice.

Gene earned a BBA from the University of Mississippi in 1956 and an LLB in 1958. He was a fellow of the Mississippi Bar Foundation, is a recipient of the Ole Miss Law School Alumnus of the Year Award, and served as the founding chairman of The Lamar Order, as president of the University of Mississippi Law School Alumni Association and as founding president of Mississippi Bar Legal Services, Inc. He practiced law in Jackson, MS for 40 years and retired from Butler Snow in 1998.

McRoberts was active in the civic affairs of Jackson having served as the president/chairman of the board of Hinds County Ole Miss Alumni Association, Downtown YMCA, Jackson Preparatory School and Capitol Investors, Inc. He also served on the boards of Metropolitan YMCA, University of Mississippi Foundation, Central Mississippi Legal Services Corporation, First Presbyterian Day School and River Hills Tennis Club.
