Kara E. Shea and David L. Johnson to Present 2019 Family and Medical Leave Act Master Class

Butler Snow is pleased to announce Kara E. Shea and David L. Johnson will present the 2019 Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) Master Class: Tennessee – Advanced Skills for Employee Leave Management.

The seminar – held May 16 at the Franklin Marriott Cool Springs in Franklin, Tenn. – will cover FMLA essentials, as well as provide FMLA compliance scenarios and case studies for real-world application.

Kara is a member and former practice group leader of the firm’s labor and employment group and concentrates her practice on employment counseling and employment litigation. She has extensive trial and appellate experience and regularly counsels clients in the financial services, health care and home health industries on employment law compliance. Kara has been recognized by Best Lawyers® for employment law – management and labor law – management, by Super Lawyers® as a Mid-South Super Lawyer for employment and labor, a Top 50 Women: Mid-South Super Lawyers, a Top 50 Nashville Super Lawyers and as a Top 100: Tennessee Super Lawyers, by Chambers USA for labor and employment.

She received her bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, from Boston University and her Juris Doctor from Vanderbilt University Law School.

David serves as practice group leader of the firm’s labor and employment group. He is a member of the appellate and written advocacy group and the intellectual property group, and focuses his practice on business and employment litigation, non-compete and trade secret litigation, as well as employment compliance, counseling and training. David has been recognized by Best Lawyers® for employment law – management, litigation – ERISA and litigation – labor and employment, by Super Lawyers® for employment and labor and by Martindale Hubbell® with an AV-Preeminent Peer Review Rating.

David regularly speaks on employment-related topics such as covenants not to compete, non-compete and non-solicitation agreements and workplace harassment. He is a member of the American, Tennessee and Nashville Bar Associations. David received his undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University and his Juris Doctor from Vanderbilt University Law School.
