The Access to Justice Committee is a partnership between the Memphis Bar Association, Memphis Area Legal Services, the Community Legal Center and private attorneys with the mission to provide legal aid and education to under resourced members of our community.

The MBA’s Access to Justice Committee began recognizing attorneys as Champions of Justice in 2017, the first Champions of Justice were Bruce Ralston, Melanie R. Yelder, and Matthew Mulqueen.  Originally only attorneys were recognized for their contribution to the pursuit of access to justice and the commitment to pro bono service.  The Committee expanded the awards to recognize members of the judiciary, individual attorneys, law firms, legal departments, non-profits, law students, and public interest attorneys/professionals. When selecting the recipients, the committee considers the work and service provided during that calendar year and the nominee’s overall commitment to access to justice.

Butler Snow’s pro bono program offers legal services in litigation and non-litigation matters for individuals and nonprofit organizations to directly benefit the communities where the firm’s attorneys live and work. The firm and its attorneys have been recognized for their dedication to providing pro bono services, approaching every pro bono matter with the same exacting professional standards applicable for all paying client matters.
