Butler Snow attorney Tray Hairston has been officially appointed to the Board of Trustees at Tougaloo College, a private historically Black institution in Mississippi renowned for its commitment to academic excellence and social justice. Hairston’s role as a member of the Board of Trustees will involve attending biannual meetings and advising the college on strategic decisions that will support the mission of the Mississippi college.
As a graduate of Tougaloo, Hairston has maintained a close relationship with the institution and recently delivered a keynote speech at the college’s Light of Learning Ceremony that welcomes students to the academic family.
Hairston will serve on both the Finance Committee and the Economic Development and Physical Resources Committee, where his background in public finance and economic development will be a valuable resource to current students and the future of the college.
Tray Hairston
Tray Hairston is a member of the firm’s Public Finance, Tax Incentives & Credit Markets group and concentrates his practice on public finance and economic development matters. He has served as bond counsel for various cities and counties as well as incentive counsel to developers and companies working on transactions totaling more than $3 billion. In addition, he is a Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) through the International Economic Development Council. In his role as a CEcD, Hairston provides economic development consulting advice to communities throughout the country and site selection consulting advice to companies throughout the U.S.
Hairston has been recognized by BL Rankings, The Best Lawyers in America® for Economic Development, Thomson Reuters Super Lawyers® and Southern Business & Development’s Under 50 Economic Developers to Watch. In 2018, The Bond Buyer® publication recognized Hairston as one of the 28 “Rising Stars” within the public finance industry throughout the country. Rising Stars are nominated by their peers, and submissions are judged by a panel of municipal finance leaders throughout the country as well as publication’s editorial leadership team. Hairston recently participated in the Harvard University Kennedy School’s Effective Leadership Across Sectors Program, a leadership training program designed and led by Harvard faculty.
