Butler Snow Attorney Meade W. Mitchell to Serve as the 2026-2027 Chair of ABA’s Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section

Butler Snow LLP is pleased to announce that Meade W. Mitchell will serve as 2026-2027 Chair of the American Bar Association’s Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section (TIPS). Mitchell was elected to chair this group, one of the ABA’s largest sections, which is focused on lawyers practicing in the tort, trial, and insurance space. He has extensive leadership experience in the section, having served in many leadership roles, including Revenue Officer, Council representative, and chair of multiple committees.

The American Bar Association’s Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section is a global network of over 10,000 members that fosters the success of a diverse community of tort, trial and insurance lawyers, professionals, and students, providing a premier forum for the exchange of information and ideas.

Meade W. Mitchell

Bringing over 30 years of experience in the legal field, Mitchell is recognized as a top fifty lawyer in Mississippi by Super Lawyers®. He is AV®-Preeminent™ Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell® and recognized by BL Rankings, The Best Lawyers in America® and Who’s Who Legal in Product Liability.

Mitchell previously served as the Practice Group Leader for the firm’s Products, Catastrophic & Industrial Litigation group and concentrates his practice on product liability, pharmaceutical, toxic tort, environmental, and transportation litigation. He represents clients in a variety of product liability disputes throughout the United States, including serving as national counsel for manufacturers and distributors. Mitchell litigates premises, trucking, and consumer protection suits.

Mitchell previously served as President of The Mississippi Bar, the Capital Area Bar Association, and Jackson Young Lawyers. He chaired numerous committees of each of these organizations. Mitchell is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and the Mississippi Bar Foundation. He is a Bencher of the American Inns of Court, Charles Clark Chapter. 

He previously served on the Greater Jackson Chamber Partnership Board of Directors, as President of Leadership Greater Jackson Alumni Association, and as a Fundraiser Chair and Civic Club President. Mitchell serves as Butler Snow’s representative to the Lex Mundi Legal Network.

Mitchell earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi and his Juris Doctor from the University of Mississippi School of Law, both with honors.
