Butler Snow attorney Jim Letten was recently selected to represent the Louisiana Bar Association as one the veteran attorneys presenting as a panelist on professionalism to all of the new first year (1-L) law students at Southern University Law Center and Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center, on August 13 and 15, respectively. Letten, a member of the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board appointed by the Louisiana Supreme Court, has served as a presenter on professionalism and ethics at Louisiana’s law schools for a number of years.
The Louisiana Bar Association’s Professionalism Orientation Program has been and remains a success, by engaging distinguished veteran Louisiana attorneys in panels to facilitate student participation in the identification and discussion of issues involving attorney professionalism to new law students at the very outset of their legal education.
As a member of Butler Snow’s Commercial Litigation Group based in New Orleans, Letten consults and provides representation to both US and foreign corporations, focusing on the establishment, training and maintenance of US FCPA, UK Bribery Act and other corporate compliance and integrity programs; Anti-Money Laundering/Bank Secrecy Act/Counter-Terrorist Financing (AML/BSA/CTF) corporate compliance programs; crafting and reviewing Anti-Corruption warranties in corporate mergers and acquisitions; training and monitoring state and local police departments on constitutional policing; directing and conducting internal corporate investigations; and advising/representing companies in federal criminal and regulatory investigations; as well as representing companies in complex litigation.
Prior to joining the firm, Letten served continuously as the longest serving United States Attorney in the nation at the time of his retirement, with almost 12 years of continuous service – and 30 years with the Department of Justice.
Letten earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of New Orleans and his Juris Doctor from Tulane University.
