Butler Snow LLP is pleased to welcome Timothy J. Stostad to the firm’s Specialized Advocacy Group in its Austin, Texas, office.

“We are excited to welcome Timothy to Butler Snow,” said Christopher R. Maddux, chair of Butler Snow. “He brings a unique combination of appellate, litigation, legislative, and public-sector experience that will further strengthen our capabilities in complex commercial disputes, appeals, and regulatory matters. His depth of experience across both government and private practice will be a tremendous asset to our clients.”

Timothy J. Stostad

Stostad is an experienced appellate and litigation attorney whose practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, appeals, administrative law, and business disputes in state and federal courts.

He has extensive experience handling aspects of civil trials and appeals, including fact investigation; case development and strategy; mediation, negotiation, and settlement; discovery, document production and depositions; dispositive and post-trial motion practice; and drafting merits briefs on appeal. Stostad also advises businesses and governmental entities on legislative, regulatory, and administrative matters.

Prior to joining Butler Snow, Stostad served as a staff attorney for an intermediate Texas appellate court, where he prepared draft opinions and recommendations on select appeals as well as petitions for writ of mandamus, permissive appeals, and other original proceedings, often in significant public-law and administrative matters.

Earlier in his career, Stostad represented businesses and governmental entities in complex commercial litigation and appeals and, before that, served in staff attorney and general counsel roles within the Texas Legislature. In those positions, he developed and drafted legislation across a broad range of subject matters, including civil practice and remedies, insurance and financial regulation, public finance, business licensing and regulation, and local government matters. He also advised on ethics, open meetings, and open records issues.

Stostad earned his Juris Doctor from Cornell Law School and his Bachelor of Arts from The University of Texas at Austin. He is admitted to practice in Texas and New York, as well as multiple federal courts, including the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
