Butler Snow Partner Stephen C. Edds Passes Away

It is with great sorrow that we announce Butler Snow attorney Stephen C. Edds passed away on Tuesday, March 29 in Ridgeland, Miss.

Steve earned his bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctor from the University of Mississippi. He joined Butler Snow in 2016 and practiced with the firm’s Public Finance, Tax Incentives & Credit Markets practice group. Steve focused his practice on government and private finance, economic development incentives and government relations. He represented cities, counties and other governmental units in Mississippi and Alabama, including the States of Mississippi and Alabama, in the issuance of various types of municipal debt, as well as the issuance of debt for numerous Fortune 100 corporations, colleges and universities and public and non-profit health care facilities.

Steve had been recognized by Best Lawyers in America®, Chambers USA® and Super Lawyers® and served in a number of leadership roles, including serving as Chairman of the American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Silver Gavel Awards, two terms as Chairman of the Mississippi Tort Claims Board, three terms as Chairman of the Mississippi Arts Commission, Chairman of the Mississippi Museum of Art’s Board of Trustees, Trustee of Tougaloo College and Vice President of the Mississippi Bar.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Steve’s wife and Butler Snow partner, Lesly Gaynor Murray, as well as his family and friends.

Steve’s funeral will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at 3:00 PM at Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Cathedral, 305 E. Capitol Street, Jackson, MS. Following the funeral, friends are invited to Celebrate Steve’s Life at the Mississippi Museum of Art, 380 S. Lamar Street, Jackson, MS, beginning at 4:00 PM. .
