Kimberly E. Smith to Co-Present on New Markets Tax Credits & Economic Development Tools

Butler Snow attorney Kimberly E. Smith is set to co-present at the upcoming Advanced Tax Credit Finance Course presented by the Council of Development Finance Agencies (CDFA) on Wednesday, Aug. 11 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. eastern. The presentation, titled “Combining New Markets Tax Credits with Other Tools,” will discuss how NMTCs work with other economic development tools such as tax-exempt bonds, Opportunity Zones, tax increment finance (TIF) and funding made available through the American Rescue Plan. The speakers will present theories and case studies to demonstrate how these types of deals work in communities. More information on the Course can be found here.

Smith is an experienced transactional lawyer with a focus on NMTCs and public finance. She has extensive experience with structuring complex financing transactions for 501(c)(3) organizations, real estate developers, operating businesses and government entities utilizing tax credits, conventional financing, tax-exempt bonds and/or USDA financing.

Smith speaks frequently on issues related to the NMTC program and public finance, as well as various other incentive programs and has contributed to industry publications. She obtained her J.D. from the University of Mississippi and LL.M. in Taxation from New York University.
