Anita Modak-Truran Elected President of the Tennessee Intellectual Property Lawyers Association

Butler Snow is pleased to announce that Anita Modak-Truran has been elected president of the Tennessee Intellectual Property Lawyers Association (TIPLA). The organization is comprised of patent, trademark, and copyright attorneys who volunteer together to educate others on emerging trends and best practices within the industry.

TIPLA is open to all attorneys who have interest in intellectual property law and twice a year sponsors Continuing Legal Education (CLE) symposiums in Nashville, Tenn. focusing on intellectual property topics.

“I’m honored to have been elected to this position,” said Modak-Truran. “With the rapid development of new entertainment mediums and technology in general, it’s an exciting time to practice in the intellectual property space and to educate others in the legal industry who share these interests.”

Modak-Truran heads the entertainment and media industry group in Butler Snow’s Nashville, Tenn. office. She works on a wide variety of business and litigation matters in the entertainment and media industry, including representing motion picture and television companies, television stations, newspapers, record labels, music companies and talent. She is also a member of the firm’s pharmaceutical, medical device and healthcare litigation group.  Throughout her career, she has tried more than 100 cases in state and federal courts.

Modak-Truran is AV-rated by Martindale-Hubbell, and has been recognized by Mid-South Super Lawyers® in the Entertainment and Media, Personal Injury Defense: Products, and Intellectual Property Litigation categories.  In 2015, Mid-South Super Lawyers® named her as one of the region’s Top 50 Women Attorneys.  Modak-Truran completed her undergraduate education at Gustavus Adolphus College and earned her Juris Doctor from Loyola University of Chicago. She is also an adjunct professor at the University of Mississippi Law School where she teaches courses on deal-making in the entertainment industry.
