Butler Snow LLP is pleased to announce that Katherine B. Barnes has joined the firm’s Regulatory & Government Relations practice group. She will practice in the Nashville, Tennessee, office.

Barnes has spent the last seven years of her career with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC), where her litigation experience encompassed complex and high-profile enforcement cases, permit appeals and related regulatory matters. She also led policymaking and research initiatives in several areas of environmental law, in addition to executing legal matters pertaining to property, real estate and contract law and advised the TDEC Commissioner, leadership and staff across divisions.
After receiving her bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, from Sewanee: The University of the South, she earned her Juris Doctor, cum laude, as well as her Master of Environmental Law and Policy, magna cum laude, from Vermont Law School. During law school, she clerked at the Southern Environmental Law Center in Charlottesville, Virginia. Barnes is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association.
