Andrew D. Tharp Appointed Co-Chair of ABA Mass Torts Litigation Committee

Butler Snow attorney Andrew D. Tharp has been appointed co-chair of the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Mass Torts Litigation Committee for the 2022-2023 bar year. The committee is part of the ABA’s Litigation Section and addresses current and emerging issues that arise in a broad spectrum of substantive areas, where the common denominator is the large number of plaintiffs asserting the tort claims. Tharp previously served as the committee’s vice chair and web editor.

Tharp is a member of Butler Snow’s Pharmaceutical, Medical Device and Healthcare practice group. He has tried numerous cases to verdict, and he has also handled fact, company, and expert witness depositions for hundreds of cases in mass tort, federal multidistrict litigation.

Tharp served in the U.S. Air Force as an Area Defense Counsel (2013-2015) and Assistant Staff Judge Advocate (2010-2013). During his time with the Air Force, he represented more than 800 clients in federal investigations and disciplinary actions. He was also the Lowry Award winner of the 2010 Judge Advocate Staff Officer Course. The award recognizes the JAG who best exemplifies officership, esprit de corps, service before self, and integrity.

Tharp has been recognized by Mid-South Super Lawyers® since 2021 and is a Fellow of the Nashville Bar Foundation. He obtained his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Toledo and B.S., cum laude, from Bowling Green State University.
