Butler Snow attorneys Kristin E. Konschnik and Christopher L. McLemore helped advise The Roald Dahl Story Company and its shareholders on the sale of its international entertainment business to Netflix, Inc. The Roald Dahl Story Company manages the worldwide rights to Roald Dahl’s well-known stories and characters, including “Matilda,” “Charlie & The Chocolate Factory,” “Fantastic Mr. Fox,” and “James and the Giant Peach,” among other classics.
Butler Snow was part of a team of advisors delivering complex yet practical advice to The Roald Dahl Story Company and its shareholders on the sale, which ushers in a new era for Roald Dahl’s much-loved stories. Konschnik and McLemore, both in Butler Snow’s London office, provided cross-border tax and transactional advice on the sale and related family goals, including the family’s significant philanthropic intentions. Other members of the Butler Snow team included Sarah E. Hoffmann, W. Jeff McGoff and Miriam Biffle Santo.
“The opportunity to assist The Roald Dahl Story Company and its shareholders with the sale of its business to Netflix was a Golden Ticket for our team at Butler Snow,” said Konschnik. “We are excited to help Roald Dahl’s stories reach an even wider audience worldwide.”
McLemore added, “With deep connections to the US and the UK, the sale of The Roald Dahl Story Company was a perfect fit for our US team based in London, and it allowed us to work closely with members of our US offices to provide cross-border expertise in a truly international transaction.”
Going forward, Netflix and The Roald Dahl Story Company will work together to share Roald Dahl’s classic characters and books with another generation of children (and adults!) around the world.
