Jerome K. Lanning Receives L. Burton Barnes III Public Service Award

Butler Snow attorney Jerome K. Lanning is the 2020 recipient of the Birmingham Bar Association’s L. Burton Barnes III Public Service Award. The award recognizes a member of the Birmingham Bar Association who has given freely of their time and energy in public service for the benefit and betterment of the general public. Lanning was nominated by the Freshwater Land Trust, an organization he has been involved with since its inception in 1996 and where he currently serves as Vice President and General Counsel of the President’s Advisory Council, providing legal counsel and service on complicated real estate transactions and nonprofit operations.

Lanning is of counsel to Butler Snow and has significant experience representing developers, owners, operators, investors and users in all aspects of real estate, including land acquisition, finance, construction, leasing and sales. He routinely advises and assists landowners regarding conservation easements and related tax opportunities and strategies.

Additionally, Lanning is AV-rated by Martindale-Hubbell, and his work has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America® since 1983. He obtained his J.D. from the University of Alabama and is admitted to the Alabama State Bar.
