Former Butler Snow Partner Charles Brocato Passes Away

Charles “Charlie” Brocato, a former long-time partner at Butler Snow, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 1 in Brandon, Miss.

Charlie earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting and his Juris Doctor in 1961 from the University of Mississippi and completed basic training with the Mississippi Air Guard prior to completing law school. After his graduation, he practiced with his uncle, Vincent “Buddy” Brocato, in Clarksdale, where he also served as Assistant City Attorney and City Prosecuting Attorney. He then enrolled at New York University, where he earned his Masters of Laws in Taxation degree.

Charlie moved to Jackson in 1964 where he practiced with Dossett & Magruder. Then in 1988, the firm Magruder, Montgomery & Brocato merged with Butler, Snow, O’Mara, Stevens & Cannada, where Charlie was a partner until his retirement. His areas of practice included tax controversy and litigation, white collar criminal defense and tax planning. Charlie was active on committees for both the Mississippi State Bar Association and the American Bar Association, even serving as chairman of several committees. He was selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America beginning in 1995.

Visitation Details
Visitation will be Saturday, October 10, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at Wright & Ferguson (114 Burney Drive, Flowood, Mississippi). A funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church (5691 Mississippi Highway 25, Flowood, Mississippi). Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Garden (1106 Star Road, Brandon, Mississippi).
