John Shoemaker to Present at ICA APAC Conference

Butler Snow attorney John Shoemaker will be presenting at the International Compliance Association (ICA) 2nd Annual APAC Conference on Wednesday, October 16 at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore. Shoemaker’s presentation, titled “Are you prepared for a FATCA/CRS tax audit?” will detail key elements of compliance, including records and staff issues and the type of questions that could be asked. The ICA APAC Conference is designed to provide a platform for the global compliance community to come together and address the challenges most crucial to the compliance agenda including bribery and corruption, anti-money laundering, technology, regulations, skills and workplace diversity.

Shoemaker is a member of the firm’s business services group and practices in our Singapore office. He has more than 25 years of experience in legal and regulatory compliance and is a common law attorney with educational emphasis on taxation, trusts and estate planning. Shoemaker also has extensive experience in ensuring multi-jurisdictional compliance for product offerings (working with outside counsel and adapting products for sale in relevant jurisdictions), including product management skills to direct complex products from concept to fully operational status.

Shoemaker is a member of the Singapore Trustees Association, the Society of Trust and Estates Practitioners and the Kansas Bar Association. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas, his Juris Doctor from Washburn University School of Law and his Master of Laws in Taxation from the University of Alabama School of Law.
