Butler Snow is pleased to announce Katie A. Fillmore has joined the Butler Snow team in Austin, Texas. Fillmore will practice with the firm’s product liability group.
“Katie has an excellent background in product liability and commercial litigation, and strengthens our firm’s presence in Texas,” said Don Clark, Jr., Chairman of Butler Snow. “Her extensive experience in the pharmaceutical, automotive, and consumer products industries will be a valuable asset to our growing product liability group.”
Fillmore’s previous practice experience includes product liability litigation; commercial litigation; discovery coordination and eDiscovery; and appellate and advanced motions. Fillmore’s work has focused on the defense of pharmaceutical and automotive manufacturers in mass tort product liability litigation in both state and federal courts. She has extensive experience developing corporate defense strategies and evaluating complex regulatory and scientific issues.In addition, she is experienced in developing eDiscovery search terms and collection protocols, as well as managing eDiscovery review.
Fillmore also has experience in Government Relations. Fillmore previously served as a policy attorney for the Supreme Court of Texas Judicial Commission, acting as a liaison to the Texas Legislature on policy relating to the Texas court system. She worked on the development of legislations, procedural rules and training courses relating to the judiciary. In that capacity, Fillmore testified at Texas House and Senate Committee hearings and drafted language for legislations that was enacted into law. Before becoming an attorney, Fillmore worked as a Legislative Aide for a member of the Texas House of Representatives. Fillmore has experience preparing draft opinions for civil and criminal cases, including petitions for writ of mandamus and appeals from complex civil jury trials, summary judgment and multifaceted probate litigation.
Fillmore has a unique understanding of appellate law, having served as a judicial law clerk for the First Court of Appeals in Houston. Fillmore clerked for Justice George C. Hanks, Jr., who is now a Federal District Judge. In that role, she prepared drat opinions for civil and criminal cases, including petitions for writ of mandamus and appeals from complex civil jury trials, summary judgment and multifaceted probate litigation.
Fillmore received her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas and her Juris Doctor from Baylor University School of Law. She is President of the Austin Young Lawyers Association and serves on the Executive Committee of the Austin Bar Association. Fillmore also serves on three Steering Committees for the Defense Research Institute. Fillmore is also very involved in the Austin community and is a member of the Austin Mayor’s Young Professionals Advisory Group.
