Ann Bowden-Hollis Elected Vice Chairperson of Mississippi Board of Bar Admissions
Butler, Snow, O’Mara, Stevens & Cannada, PLLC, has announced that Ann Bowden-Hollis has been elected as vice chairperson of the Mississippi Board of Bar Admissions.
Supreme Court Justice, Jess H. Dickinson, reappointed Bowden-Hollis of Ocean Springs to serve a second term on the board, which unanimously elected Bowden-Hollis to vice chairperson. Bowden-Hollis replaces Jackson City Attorney Pieter Teeuwissen as vice chairperson of the board, a position he has held since 2005. Teeuwissen will serve as chair. The Board of Bar Admissions is made up of nine practicing attorneys. Board members are appointed by the Supreme Court to staggered terms.
As vice chairperson, Bowden-Hollis will participate in semi-annual meetings with the Chief Justice of the Mississippi Supreme Court and three other members of the court, meetings that are unprecedented in recent board history. In addition, Bowden-Hollis will visit the University of Mississippi School of Law with other members of the Board of Bar Admissions, beginning in late summer 2010, to address first- and third- year law students on bar admission matters.
The Board of Bar Admissions administers the rules and statutes governing the admission to the practice of a law in Mississippi. The Board of Bar Admissions oversees the preparation, administration and evaluation of two bar examinations each year. The Board also, in conjunction with its Committee on Character and Fitness, oversees the investigation and evaluation of the character and fitness of each person who applies to become a member of the Mississippi Bar.
This honor follows Bowden-Hollis’s recent recognition as Long-Term Workforce Housing’s “Star of the Month” for her continued efforts in protecting Mississippi Development Authority’s (MDA) interest through advice from her legal experience related to the Davis-Bacon Act and overall construction-related activities. Since September 2008, Bowden-Hollis has devoted a significant amount of her legal practice to work related to MDA’s Long-Term Workforce Housing Program. The program provides grants and loans to local governments, non-profits and for-profits to provide long-term, affordable housing in the Mississippi counties most heavily affected by Hurricane Katrina.
In October 2009, Bowden-Hollis earned her Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, one of the most valued and respected credentials in the project management industry. She previously served as chair of the Labor and Employment Law Section of the Mississippi Bar, and as president of the Harrison County Bar Association.
Bowden-Hollis is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management. She earned Bachelor of Science and Masters of Education degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi and juris doctorate degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law.
