Ryan Beckett Awarded Mississippi Volunteer Lawyers Project's Pro Bono Award

Butler, Snow, O’Mara, Stevens & Cannada, PLLC, has announced that Ryan Beckett is the recipient of the 2009 Mississippi Volunteer Lawyers Project Pro Bono Award: Beyond the Call of Duty.

Beckett is a member of Butler Snow’s Commercial Litigation Group and Pharmaceutical, Medical Device and Healthcare Industry Group in the firm’s Ridgeland office.

The Mississippi Association for Justice Award has been presented annually by the Mississippi Volunteer Lawyers Project to an individual who has provided outstanding pro bono legal services during the previous year. The main purpose of this award is to foster awareness of the need for involvement of the private bar in delivering legal services to the poor, particularly through the Mississippi Volunteer Lawyers Project. Selection is made by a Mississippi Volunteer Lawyer Lawyers committee.

“Ryan has made significant contributions to the Mississippi Volunteer Lawyers Project, and our firm is proud of his dedication“, said Don Clark, Chairman, Butler Snow.  “We commend Ryan and others who freely devote their time to providing legal services to the underprivileged.”

Beckett serves as chair of the Federal Bar Association, Young Lawyers Division, and the Defense Research Institute antitrust committee. He is a member of the American Bar Association’s Section on Antitrust, Charles Clark American Inn of Court, Defense Research Institute commercial litigation committee and the Young Lawyers committee. Beckett is also a member of Mississippi Defense Lawyers Association and the Mississippi Bar Young Lawyers Division and mock trial committee.

A resident of Jackson, Beckett earned a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from Millsaps College and graduated magna cum laude from the University of Mississippi School of Law.

The Mississippi Volunteer Lawyers Project is a joint venture of the Mississippi Bar Association and Mississippi Legal Services Program. More than 1,800 Mississippi attorneys volunteer their time and expertise to participate in the project, and, as a result, more than 8,000 low income citizens are assisted by the project each year.
