Victor J. Franckiewicz, Jr. has joined the Public Law and Finance and Product Liability Practice Groups at Butler, Snow, O’Mara, Stevens & Cannada, PLLC (Butler Snow). Franckiewicz will be based in Gulfport and New Orleans where he will focus on public-private sector redevelopment, environmental law and litigation, zoning and land use, administrative law and mass tort litigation. “Vic has a vast amount of experience in business and litigation representation. When you combine that expertise with his history and service in the public sector, Vic’s addition to our firm will enhance our presence in Louisiana and strengthen our client service capabilities across several areas,” said Bob Galloway, Senior Partner, Gulf Coast Office, Butler Snow. Franckiewicz is currently lead counsel for Louisiana Land Trust, a legislatively-chartered nonprofit, charged with managing 10,000 Hurricane Katrina-damaged properties across South Louisiana and returning them to commerce. In the past, among other accomplishments, he’s also led a 15-member legal team representing the Regional Transit Authority in New Orleans in a major effort to reorganize the agency following a change in administration, and to restructure the agency following Hurricane Katrina. He managed a defense team defending several national clients against 21,000 plaintiffs in Mississippi litigation. Franckiewicz is a former Mississippi State Senator and was Mayor of Bay St. Louis. Previously, he served as President and CEO of the Bureau of Governmental Research and on the Mississippi Advisory Commission on Public Trust Tidelands. Franckiewicz has been awarded the National Excellence Award for Public Policy by the Governmental Research Association, the Common Cause Legislative Leadership Award, the Volunteer of the Year Award for pro-bono services provided to the Safe Harbor Women’s Shelter and was the co-recipient of the Ted Aschman Prize from the American Society of Planning Officials. Franckiewicz is a member of the Mississippi Bar and Louisiana State Bar Association. He received his Masters in City Planning and S.B. in Urban Studies from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his J.D. from Loyola Law School while serving in the Mississippi Senate. While at Loyola, Franckiewicz served on the Moot Court Board and worked at the Loyola Law Review.
