Intellectual Property Attorney Hemant Gupta Joins Butler Snow

Former St. Jude Researcher is Member of U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Bar

Memphis – Attorney Hemant Gupta has joined the Intellectual Property practice at Butler Snow.  A Biomedical Engineering graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Gupta spent five years at St. Jude as a cancer researcher before attending law school.

Following graduation from Penn, he worked as a researcher in the university’s Department of Cognitive Neuroscience.  In addition to his biomedical engineering major, Gupta earned minors in Mathematics, Chemistry and Psychology.

“Hemant’s scientific and engineering background will help us better serve our clients in the biomedical device sector and the emerging biotechnology sector,” said Craig Grossman, head of the Intellectual Property and Technology practice at Butler Snow.

“Intellectual property law is perhaps the fastest growing practice area in Memphis,” Gupta said, “and Butler Snow is a leader in this growth.  I know I am at the right place at the right time.”

Gupta, a member of the Tennessee Bar, also is licensed to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Bar and in federal trial and appellate courts.  He is a board member and secretary of the Tennessee Intellectual Property Law Association and a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association.

A Memphis native, Gupta earned his J.D. at the University of Memphis and graduated high school at MUS.
