Butler Snow Attorney Randall D. McClanahan has been appointed as Chairman of the Law and Accounting Committee of the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section.

“We are proud that Randy has been appointed as Chairman of the Law and Accounting Committee,” said Donald Clark, Jr., chairman of Butler Snow. “This is a great honor for him and he will provide great leadership for the group.”

McClanahan is a member of Butler Snow’s Business Services Group. He focuses his practice on corporate law, federal and international tax law, mergers and acquisitions and venture capital and private equity transactions. He is also a Certified Public Accountant. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Accounting at Auburn University, a Master’s of Tax Accounting from the University of Alabama and a Master’s of Business Administration from Duke University before completing a Juris Doctor at the University of North Carolina School of Law.

McClanahan’s three-year term begins in September 2014. The Committee focuses in particular on (i) the impact of accounting and financial reporting matters in the securities laws, and (ii) the assistance to business attorneys in understanding and applying accounting and auditing issues in their practices. The Committee also often provides input of the American Bar Association’s position on proposed changes to accounting and auditing pronouncements to the Financial Accounting Standards Board and to the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, and assists in providing similar commentary to the Securities and Exchange Commission.
