The Butler Snow Foundation is pleased to announce its 2023 grant recipients. This year, the Foundation received 68 applications from across the firm’s footprint requesting more than $930,000 in funding. After a thorough review, the Foundation awarded $139,305.02 to the following organizations.
Children’s Advocacy Centers of Texas, Inc. – Austin, Texas
- Children’s Advocacy Centers of Texas is a transformative, evidence-based nonprofit dedicated to protecting childhood in Texas. Grant funds will be used to cover the cost of microphones, cameras and labor to install technological updates in the organization’s training center.
Texas Advocacy Project, Inc. (TAP) – Austin, Texas
- TAP empowers survivors of dating and domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking by providing free legal services and access to the justice system. Grant funds will be used to purchase 10 new laptop systems with docking stations and monitors to help provide free civil, legal and social work services.
HOPE Ministries of Baton Rouge – Baton Rouge, Louisiana
- HOPE’s mission is to prevent homelessness and promote self-sufficiency and dignity. Grant funds will be used to purchase a new freezer for the food pantry to replace the current unit, which recently caused the loss of 800 lbs. of food set aside for needy families.
Christian Service Mission – Birmingham, Alabama
- Christian Service Mission exists to connect resources with needs through relational partnerships to help communities thrive. Grant funds will be used to replace the organization’s oldest truck with a new vehicle, relieving them of lost time and repair costs.
First Light, Inc. – Birmingham, Alabama
- First Light offers those experiencing homelessness stable emergency shelter, access to housing programs, and the resources for them to achieve their full potential. Grant funds will be used to purchase new washers and dryers for use by residents of First Light.
Charleston Pro Bono Legal Services – Charleston, South Carolina
- The mission of Charleston Pro Bono Legal Services is to provide access to justice and legal services for the purpose of building strong, vibrant communities. Grant funds will be used to upgrade and expand the current intern room to hold three attorneys and a legal assistant, as well as provide updated office-wide technological infrastructure.
High Hopes, Inc. – Franklin, Tennessee
- High Hopes has provided an inclusive preschool, advanced pediatric therapies, and family support since 1984. Grant funds will be used to help purchase a therapy tool that will assist clients with increased independence in home, school and community environments.
Extra Table– Hattiesburg, Mississippi
- Extra Table is a nonprofit organization committed to ending hunger by providing food pantries and soup kitchens with the new and healthy food they need to feed the hungry in their community. Grant funds will be used to purchase materials and equipment to help volunteers package and ship food to 62 soup kitchens and food pantries across Mississippi each month.
National Children’s Advocacy Center– Huntsville, Alabama
- The National Children’s Advocacy Center’s mission is to model, promote, and deliver excellence in child abuse response and prevention through service, education and leadership. Grant funds will be used to fund a critical bathroom renovation to create a welcoming, hygienic and comfortable environment for children and families who rely on NCAC’s services.
Corporation for Global Community Development– Jackson, Mississippi
- The Corporation for Global Community Development’s outreach alleviates hunger, elevates social well-being, and provides personal development and educational programs. Grant funds will be used to improve accessibility at two emergency houses offered to women and women with children who may be homeless or have a current life circumstance that requires them to seek a safe haven.
Hananiah House – Juliet, Tennessee
- Hananiah House provides safe, stable transitional housing for women who have been incarcerated. Grant funds will be designated to support residents and allow them to build rental history and practice the next phase of independence in a space that guarantees their safety and protects their sobriety and hard-won progress as Hananiah House graduates.
Church Health – Memphis, Tennessee
- Church Health seeks to reclaim the church’s biblical commitment to care for our bodies and our spirits. Grant funds will be used to identify and provide working, functional equipment to continue to deliver dental care to those in the community who need it most.
Memphis Jewish Federation– Memphis, Tennessee
- The Memphis Jewish Federation’s mission is to develop a vibrant and sustained Jewish community in Memphis, Israel and throughout the world. Grant funds will be used to initiate new campus security measures.
REACH Memphis – Memphis, Tennessee
- REACH Memphis is a college prep program for high school students in Shelby County, TN. The program provides students with a variety of summer experience opportunities, college counseling, career exploration services, ACT preparation, mentoring, and tutoring services. Grant funds will be used to provide laptop computers and software for use by REACH students.
Room in the Inn – Memphis– Memphis, Tennessee
- Room In the Inn focuses on serving individuals experiencing homelessness by providing meals, shelter and services. Grant funds will be used to install a secure access swipe point for staff and guests, ensuring a safe and hospitable environment.
Nashville Children’s Alliance – Nashville, Tennessee
- Nashville Children’s Alliance is a nonprofit agency that provides services at no cost to children in Davidson County who have experienced sexual or severe physical abuse. Grant funds will be used to support technology improvements within NCA’s forensic interview program. NCA conducts between 400-500 of these interviews annually to assist in abuse investigations.
St. Thomas Community Health Center – New Orleans, Louisiana
- St. Thomas Community Health Center’s mission is to provide culturally competent healthcare of the highest quality, regardless of an individual’s ability to pay. Grant funds will be used to help offset the costs of the purchase and installation of a new generator that will allow the facility to operate during power outages brought on by weather and outdated infrastructure.
Scottdale Early Learning – Scottdale, Georgia
- The mission of Scottdale Early Learning is to provide education that fosters the intellectual, creative, emotional and physical development of its students. Grant funds will be used to complete a full renovation of the Midway Woods location’s Child and Adult Care Food Program kitchen.
